The Child Development Associate (CDA) Program prepares students for
employment with preschool children in childcare centers, preschools,
Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten programs. The AAS-CDA program is
suitable for teachers and teacher aides.
This program is designed to provide classroom and practical
experience to meet the emotional, social, intellectual and physical
needs of young children.
CDA course credits taken toward the Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
Degree in Child Development Associate may apply to some
Early Childhood Education (ECE)
degrees.
The CDA courses consist of one-, two- or three- credit courses
taught in blocks and organized around the competencies adopted by
the C.D.A. National Credentialing Program. TOCC offers the Preschool
Option.
The program includes 28 CDA course credits, which comprise the Child
Development Associate Certificate. Each student is to enroll in
Block courses 100 A, B, C & D, and Block courses 200 A, B, C, & D.
- Here are several important points about the Child
Development Associate degree:
- Students pursuing an AAS-CDA degree should meet with their
TOCC advisors every semester.
- In order to successfully complete an AAS-CDA degree,
students must maintain a C grade point average or higher for all
coursework.
- A student may enroll in CDA courses during TOCC registration
at the beginning of any semester.
- Each course earns a student one to three college credit(s).
These credits do not transfer to universities or four-year
colleges but may possibly transfer to other community college
CDA or ECE programs in Arizona.
- The Child Development Associate Program incorporates Tohono
O’odham Himdag.
