The Child Development Associate (CDA) Program prepares students for
employment with preschool children in childcare centers, preschools,
Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten programs. The program is suitable
for teachers, teacher aides, cooks, bus drivers and any personnel
already working in the field of childcare or early child education.
This program is designed to provide classroom and practical
experience to meet the emotional, social, intellectual and physical
needs of young children.
CDA course credits may be applied toward an
Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
Degree in Child Development Associate, and some Early Childhood
Education (ECE) degrees.
The CDA courses consist of one-, two- or three- credit courses
taught in blocks and organized around the competencies adopted by
the C.D.A. National Credentialing Program. TOCC offers the Preschool
Option.
The program consists of 28 CDA course credits. Each student is to
enroll in Block courses 100 A, B, C & D, and Block courses 200 A, B,
C, & D.
Here are several important points about the Child Development
Associate Certificate:
- Students pursuing a CRT-CDA certificate should meet with
their TOCC advisors every semester.
- In order to successfully complete a CRT-CDA certificate,
students must maintain a C grade point average or higher for all
coursework.
- A student may enroll in CDA courses during TOCC registration
at the beginning of any semester.
- Each course earns a student one to three college credit(s).
These credits do not transfer to universities or four-year
colleges but may possibly transfer to other community college
CDA programs in Arizona.
- The Child Development Associate Program incorporates Tohono
O’odham Himdag.

Chapter 6, Course Descriptions.
