During summer 2011, Tohono
O’odham Community College
asked for mascot suggestions
from the community and then
held open voting for the top
choices. The new mascot was
announced on Thursday, July
21, 2011, at the TOCC
Basketball Tipoff at the
Baboquivari High School
Gymnasium, when the Men’s
Basketball Team was
introduced.
Jegos is the windy dust
storm that comes before the
monsoon rain. Powerful wind
kicks up the dust, bends
trees, and sweeps across the
land before the rain pours
down. Jegos represents the
powerful Tohono O’odham
Community College athletes
coming your way.
Jegos is a Tohono O’odham
word pronounced something
like jug’ ohs with emphasis
on the first syllable. The e
makes a short ŭ or schwa ə
sound; the o is a long ō.
